"The Highlight of My Day"

Memories From Long Ago Prompt Bequest to Easterseals

Mr. Kimbler

As a boy, Mr. Kimbler received services at Easterseals. Out of gratitude, he has established a bequest to benefit Easterseals and the children we serve.

It's been about 60 years, but Mr. Kimbler can remember being a boy at Easterseals.

He recalls seeing other people learning to walk while he received speech therapy. Though his memories are vague, he knows Easterseals was "the highlight of my day."

He also knows how much it meant to his parents that their son could get the support he needed. Mr. Kimbler's mother even began volunteering for Easterseals, reaching out to businesses for donations.

"It's amazing what people will do to help others," he says. Mr. Kimbler overcame his speech challenges and went on to elementary school, high school and college. He worked most of his life as a handyman and always actively volunteered in his community.

Over the years, Mr. Kimbler regularly made cash gifts to Easterseals. Recently he left a bequest in his will to benefit Easterseals and the families we serve.

"I decided that I've got a little set aside, so I could give a portion to Easterseals," he says. "Hopefully others will benefit and have a place to go-just as I did."

Mr. Kimbler discussed the bequest with the executor of his estate, who agreed it was a "very worthy" decision.

After notifying Easterseals of his gift plan, Mr. Kimbler received a special welcome to Easterseals' Legacy Society in recognition for his generosity and his commitment to the organization's future.

"I was very touched by Easterseals' gesture," he says, but adds that the difference Easterseals makes is thanks enough. "I'm a firm believer in payback. This is the least I can do."
